Put My Little Shoes Away

one, a song I have never heard, but I've heard it mentioned. Thought I would look it up and see whether the person who spoke of it was joking, if there really was such a poem or song...and sure enough, here 'tis (recorded by The Everly Brothers, but a traditional song)...there were two different sets of lyrics so I put them together:

Put My Little Shoes Away

Mother dear, come bathe my forehead
For I'm growing very weak
Mother, let one drop of water
Fall upon my burning cheek

Chorus:
I'm going away to leave you, Mother darling
And remember what I say
Do this won't you please dear Mother
Put my little shoes away

Santa Claus, he brought them to me
with a lot of other things
I believe he brought an angel
with a pair of golden wings

Repeat chorus

Tell my loving little playmates
that I never more will play
Give them all my toys, but Mother
Put my little shoes away

Repeat chorus

Soon the baby will be larger
Then they'll fit his little feet
And he'll look so nice and cunning
When he walks upon the street

Chorus:
I'm going to leave you, Mother
So remember what I say
You will do this for me, Mother
Put my little shoes away

Now I'm growing tired, dear Mother
Soon I'll say to you good day
Always remember what I told you
Put my little shoes away

Chorus:
I'm about to leave you, Mother
So remember what I say
You will do this for me, Mother
Put my little shoes away
