Steal Away

Seems I once heard a variation of this poem--spine tingling, I might add! --on a recording, the deceased happened to be a little boy...and it was the first time I ever heard the song "Steal Away." Properly sung, it's spine tingling too!

Steal Away

Chorus:
Steal away, steal away, steal away to Jesus,
Steal away, steal away home I ain't got long to stay here.

I
My Lord calls me,
He calls me by the thunder,
Trumpet sounds within-a my soul,
I ain't got long to stay here.

II
Green trees are a-bending,
Poor sinners stand a-trembling.
Trumpet sounds within-a my soul,
I ain't got long to stay here.

III
My Lord calls me,
He calls me by the lightning,
Trumpet sounds within-a my soul,
I ain't got long to stay here.
