On the Ropes

Harbinger Of Death

A high platform looms up above you, with 13 steps from the ground to the top. Two beams protrude from the platform with a horizontal support across the top, a strong rope hanging down in the middle. A trap door is outlined under the rope. At the end of the rope there is a perfect noose.

A pile of weights sit next to the far beam, where a hooded man waits by a lever. “We put ‘em around your feet, see, so’s your break your neck quick-like, instead of hangin’ there just stranglin’ real slow,” he explains to you as you eye the weights. “It’s more humane. The boss says we shouldn’t put you through no extra pain and suffering. Unless you like that kinda thing.” He giggles in a weird, high-pitched voice and motions toward the torture area.
