“It’s mine!”

“Is not!”

“Is so! You borrowed this from me last year!”

“I did not! I gave yours back and got my own!”

“What’s going on here?” Bluetopaz rubbed her temples as she intervened in yet another skirmish between Shoshana and Orlena.

“She stole my stole!”

“I did NOT!”

“Wait a minute, stole your what?” Bt was confused.

“My ermine fur stole.” Shoshana pointed at the chocolate brown strip of fur in Orlena’s hands. “It’s mine, and she never gave it back.”

“This one is MINE. Yours was much lighter than this one.” Orlena held firmly to the fur in question.

Bluetopaz was just about to resolve the situation a la King Solomon when, SWOOSH. Their surroundings dissolved and transformed into a mountainous, rocky wooded area.

“What happened?” said a pika that used to be ‘shana.

“I don’t know, but we’re cuuuute!” said Orlena, noting her companions’ round ears, fluffy fur and rabbit-like teeth.

“We’re way too small,” Bluetopaz said to herself.

“What?”

“We’re too small. We’re easy prey.”

“What are you talking about? Oh, look, isn’t he cuuuuute!” Orlena spotted another creature, a thin, long-tailed, furry thing resembling a ferret.

“Isn’t he?” agreed Shoshana. “Lookit his cute widdle paws, and his pink nose, and his chocolate brown fur!”

“Did you say chocolate brown?” Bt said, backing away slowly.

“Yes, it looks just like—uh-oh.”

“It’s an ermine, isn’t it?”

“I’m afraid so.” They all backed away then, but found themselves up against a pile of rock and rubble. Another ermine popped up next to the first, and then another, and the three cuuuuute chocolate brown ermines had a nice pika lunch.
