Lorel knew that her time was running out, but wasn't sure how or when it was coming for her.
The sun had set and now there was a full moon riding low in the sky. There were stars shining bright through wispy clouds that chased across the face of the moon and the leaves were being whipped from their branches of the towering oaks on campus.
She could swear that she heard whispering in the air and for a moment she saw a dark shape flitting from tree to tree. Her hair started to stand on end on the back of her neck and a cold shiver went down her spine. And she knew it was time.
She started to run in hopes that she may outrun her fate when she felt her foot land upon something that she knew was not hard earth and she heard a click. Even before she could draw in a gasp a huge explosion erupted from the ground and bits and pieces of her went flying in all directions. It was a spectacular event.....that is as long as you weren't on the receiving end. All that remained was a smoldering hole in the ground and a small mushroom cloud of smoke and debris in the air.
And it was thought that later in the night that some fortunate Debs that were still alive saw something ethereal gliding among the woods that looked vaguely familiar of their fellow Deb whose name was Lorel.
